Your Votes Are In: The Fidome Playing Card Deck Lives!

When we set out to design the ultimate dog skeleton-themed card deck, we knew it had to be more than just a pretty stack of paper.

Naturally, we turned to you—our fellow dog nerds and connoisseurs of chaos—to help settle a very important question:

We needed to know whether you had a preference for the look of the cards.

You didn’t disappoint!

Over 100 of you cast your votes, and let’s just say Option A obliterated the competition with a solid 74% of the vote.

Apparently, y’all like your bones with a little extra.

So, moving forward, all cards will be in the style of Option A

The Science Behind the Color Choices

You might have noticed something unusual about the decks: no red. That’s not just a stylistic choice—it’s a nod to the science of canine vision. Dogs can’t see red, so we decided to honor their perspective by leaving it out entirely.

Fidome consists of two decks, Coat Check (which features coat mutations) and Form Factor (featuring genetic conditions that have structural outcomes).

In Coat Check, the hearts and diamonds are gold, giving the deck a vintage warmth that complements its flair. Meanwhile, in Form Factor, they’re a muted blue, offering a sleek, modern contrast. These subtle yet thoughtful choices not only reflect our aesthetic but also tie back to the science that inspired the deck in the first place. After all, why create a deck celebrating canine biology if we don’t think like a dog?

A Card Deck Where Every Card Matters

Here’s the thing about most card decks: all the attention goes to the court cards, while the rest of the deck is left to blend into the background.

Not this one.

With Fidome, every single card—yes, all 52 in each deck—features unique art. From the elegant curves of a Greyhound’s ribcage to the sturdy frame of a Rottweiler’s skeleton, each card celebrates a different breed in stunning, bone-ified detail. That means no filler cards, no repeats within a deck, and no slacking off when it comes to design.

Across the two decks—Coat Check and Form Factor—there are a total of 85 unique breeds, with a few dogs making appearances in both decks.

Why? Because some breeds have such fascinating genetics and mutations that they can’t help but dominate the literature (we’re looking at you, Shih Tzu). But don’t worry—each breed’s representation is completely unique in style, making every card one-of-a-kind.

Whether you’re holding an ace, a seven, or a queen, you’ll be looking at something completely original.

What Happens Next?

With the winning design locked in, the art is about to come to life—well, as much life as skeletons can muster. But we’re not done yet. There are still decisions to be made, bones to pick, and your opinions to dissect. Some of the biggest calls are just around the corner, like which additional breeds will claw their way into the decks. The only cards left are the Jokers, and we’d like your help deciding which breeds win that cage match.

Want a seat at the (metaphorical) autopsy table? Make sure you’re on our exclusive mailing list and following us on Instagram. That’s where you’ll cast your vote, voice your opinions, and help us decide which additional breeds make the cut.

Bringing this project to life is going to be wildly fun—but it’ll mean so much more if you’re part of the chaos. Sign up below to stay in the loop!

Stay tuned for our next update

You’ll meet all the current breeds and have your first shot at influencing which ones we’ll dig up next.
