When I designed my first digital wallpapers a few years ago, I quickly realized something: slapping a pretty image on your phone doesn’t always translate to a screen that *looks* pretty.
It’s a common problem—great art doesn’t always make for great wallpaper. But over time, I’ve learned a few tricks to elevate both my designs and your iPhone or Android home screens.
Yes, I’m not just a dog nerd—I’m also a designer. And here’s how I combine my wallpapers and icons to make it all work.
The biggest problem with most wallpapers? They clash with everything else on your screen. Busy patterns, awkward layouts, or text-heavy designs can leave your icons fighting for attention.
That’s why I focus on hierarchy—a graphic design principle that ensures each element has its own “space” to shine…and breathe. Bark & Bone wallpapers are carefully designed to avoid the chaos:
Artwork is positioned either at the top of the screen or centered, depending on your preference.
Backgrounds are solid and pattern-free, keeping the focus on the art while leaving space for your icons.
The result? A clean, visually appealing home screen that doesn’t make your eyes twitch.
Prefer something more personal? Bark & Bone wallpapers include versions without text so you can simply enjoy the art—or customize it to make it your own.
Using platforms like Canva, you can easily add your dog’s name, their birth date, or your favorite quote. It’s your wallpaper—why not make it uniquely yours?
Here’s the thing: when you want to draw attention to something on a screen, changing its color is one of the easiest ways to do it. (That’s why social media and app icons are bright and distracting.)
But for your home screen, we’re going for the opposite effect: calm and cohesive. That’s why I recommend using icons with a unified color scheme—like the minimalist white icon sets included in our Bark & Bone packs.
By making everything visually consistent, nothing screams for attention or tempts you to start doomscrolling. Instead, your screen feels like a place where you can *breathe.*
With these three simple tricks, your home screen can go from cluttered chaos to intentional design. Bark & Bone wallpapers aren’t just about showcasing beautiful art—they’re about creating a space that feels uniquely *yours.*

Because choice! We’ve been designing these kinds of things long enough to know that some people like their imagery higher on their screens and some like them centered. Artwork is designed to “play nice” with your icons so that you can still appreciate your favorite breeds without them being buried in nonsense.
NOOOO! Wallpapers and icons were created in modes and settings designed for digital display only. Printable files are significantly larger and are set up differently than those used in digital spaces. Attempting to print these out is likely to result in sh*tty, pixelated art.
That’s why our wall art is available as physical and digital print files.
